We are interested in curing mental illness, in serving children’s needs, and in undoing the crippling effects of the past. But we are equally—perhaps more—interested in challenging children with the adventure of life, in promoting improved capacity to deal with the struggles of human existence, and in anticipating the opportunities of the future.
Needham Community Lends Support to Walk For Walker
Sunday, September 18th was a perfect day for a walk in Needham!
Hundreds of participants laced up their sneakers for the second annual “Change Shoes, Change Lives” Walk for Walker at DeFazio Park in Needham. The event raised more than $48,000 in support of the children, teens, and families who benefit from the many programs at Walker. The amount is an increase of $15,000 over last year’s total.
“It has been amazing to see how Needham and other local communities have embraced this event”, said Walker annual fund manager Amy Perna. “It’s a family event that helps to support and strengthen families. That really resonates with people.”
People of all ages took advantage of the perfect weather to walk the three-mile course through Needham, with some opting for the alternate one-mile route. Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster stopped by to greet the walkers at registration. After the Walk, participants gathered at DeFazio Field for food from area restaurants, kid’s activities, and exciting raffles.

“It was a great day,” says Perna. “We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make the event a success.”
Planning will begin soon for next year’s Walk For Walker, and if you’d like to get involved, please contact Amy Perna by e-mail or by telephone at 781-292-2110.
