Professional Development

In addition to our academic internship programs, Walker also offers high quality training opportunities and professional development for all employees.  This commitment to continuous learning enables our employees to develop new skills and keep pace with their own professional goals for growth.

For Child Care Workers

Walker is known worldwide for its unparalleled professional development program for child care workers in our day school and residential programs. This year-long sequence taught by veteran child care workers and seasoned professionals includes modules in normal child development, psychopathology, and a variety of unique approaches to caring for children with severe social, emotional and behavioral challenges.

For Educational and Clinical Professionals

Walker also offers ongoing professional development training to all educational and clinical professionals.  Educators receive curriculum-based trainings designed to keep them most current on state-of-the-art teaching skills for our unique population of students. In addition, clinicians are trained in evidence-based practice, integrating continuous assessment and the multidisciplinary team toward the development of best approaches to clinical work with children and families.
