Help Us Build the Playground of Possibilities!

At Walker, a great deal of teaching happens outside our classrooms. And for many children, the playground is the place where some of life’s most important lessons are learned. Learning to balance and swing, leap and land safely, and talk with a new friend while waiting in line for the slide, the playground teaches the things that seem unteachable: courage, coordination, compassion, and kindness.

For the children at Walker who face difficult personal challenges, these lessons are even more critical.  Research shows a clear link between play and the development of the brain.  Recreation offers myriad opportunities for the refinement of motor-skills and social interaction.  Physical development comes from allowing a child the chance to safely explore, test, and expand the limits of the growing body.

The “Playground of Possibilities” is designed specifically with the specialized and focused needs of the children at Walker, while promoting the gift of fitness and health.  But this new play space will offer the children of Walker something even more precious: an outdoor classroom filled with sunshine and laughter where they can create childhood memories that will last forever.
