Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering at Walker is a fun and rewarding way to help improve the lives of children and families who are facing serious challenges. There are so many ways to get involved:

Club Resource

Have a hobby or project you would like to share with a group of students? Walker’s afternoon clubs and organizations could really use your help.

Visiting Resource

Are you a scientist or engineer interested in judging projects during our annual science fair? How about an artist or musician eager to share your talents? We welcome visiting resources during our special fairs and festivals throughout the year.

Special Events Assistant

Play a crucial role in our annual events! We always need volunteers to pitch in with the tennis and golf tournaments, sports banquets, phone-a-thons, raffles, auctions, and more…

Library Volunteer

Help our librarian re-shelve books or catalog new ones. You may even be recruited to read a story to the kids!

Office Assistant

Develop or improve your office skills by helping out in our development and public relations department. Lend a hand at event planning or help out with typing, filing, and other office duties.

Adopt-a-Home

Individuals and groups (employee groups, clubs, and organizations) are invited to get involved in this special program. Each of Walker’s six residential units accommodates seven or eight severely troubled children. An adopting group of volunteers can help children and staff at a particular unit with painting and cleaning, fun weekend activities, or monthly visits to assist with homework and cook dinner with the kids.

Clean-Up Crew

Spend a Saturday or Sunday with a group of friends helping Walker kids and staff with housekeeping chores such as painting, wallpapering, and yard work. Bring a rake, paintbrush, and a friend!
